Screen printing is one of the most durable forms of printing your decals and signage. Unlike transfer printing such as litho and flexographic, screen printing pushes ink threw a mesh screen to lay a thick deposit of ink. Decals and signage require screen printing to provide them the ability to withstand the elements. Flexographic inks have come a long way and can give us 6 months to a year outdoors. In many cases this just is not enough. Screen printed products will last for 5 to 10 years with no fading. Now that is a long lasting advertisement!
Silk Screen Printing was used by the Chinese and Japanese for making paper currency, and although it had been around for more than 2000 years, the technique was not patented until 1907 in the United Kingdom. We can no longer afford to use true silk for printing decals and signs so now we use polyester and we don’t use hair to create images, we use emulsion. Screen Printing is not just used for decals and signage. Screen printing is used in the textile trade for t-shirt and fabric printing as well and does not stop there. Fluted corplast, book binders you name it and it can be screen printed on.
Screen printing is great for outdoor vinyl labels, polyester labels, and corplast signs. Vinyl labels are used for car decals and bumper stickers going over curvatures and uneven surfaces. Vinyl labels can provide that no label look and can be use for lettering. Vinyl letters are covered with a pre-mask this is to ensure for easy application. Polyester labels are commonly used for mirror printed labels. Mirror printed labels are a label that is stuck on the inside on a window to read on the outside. In some cases they are double sided mirror printed labels. That way you can see them both sides of the window. Polyester labels are for flat surfaces were you want to avoid any label shrinkage.
